Men's basketball makes statement with win over Wingate

Harrogate, TN -  The Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team, winners of back-to-back games, were seeking to make a statement with a win over the South Atlantic Conference leading Wingate Bulldogs at home on Saturday night following a narrow loss on the road in Wingate earlier this season.

Lincoln Memorial came out fast, while limiting Wingate in the process. The Bulldog's connected on the game's first basket, but it was the only lead they would hold throughout the game. The Railsplitters took control at the 18:00 mark, 7-5, and never looked back. The Lincoln Memorial lead swelled to double digits, 23-13, with 10:12 remaining in the first half. On the heels of a 9-3 run, the lead swelled to 16 points, 32-16. However, the Bulldogs battled back to cut the score to 43-31 by halftime.

Lincoln Memorial was red hot from the field in the first half, connecting on 61.5% of attempts from the floor in the first half, including a 43.7% mark from beyond the arc. The Railsplitters only shot five free throws in the first half, but connected on 4-of-5 attempts from the stripe.

To start the second half, Lincoln Memorial started with a 7-0 run to take a 20 point lead early in the half, however, Wingate continued to battle, eventually cutting the lead back to within five, 61-56 with 9:57 remaining. Lincoln Memorial ratcheted up the intensity over the final 10 minutes of action, outscoring Wingate 27-15, pulling away to secure victory, making a statement to the rest of the conference, putting teams on notice that the Railsplitters are still here.

Lincoln Memorial maintained its red hot shooting performance into the second half, connecting on half of its overall attempts from the floor, matching its 43.7% mark from long range, and exceeding their performance from the charity stripe, connecting on 12-of-13 attempts, good for 92.3%.
