Railsplitters ground the Flying Fleet with late game heroics from Chris Hall

Due West, SC - The Lincoln Memorial baseball team was back on the road Tuesday, traveling to Due West, SC to take on the Erskine College Flying Fleet after sweeping the Mars Hill Lions in three straight games to open conference play last weekend. The Railsplitters grounded the Flying Fleet 7-3 in nine innings to improve to 9-2 on the season with four straight wins.

Erskine did all of its damage in the first inning, tallying three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 3-0 lead. However, from there, the game belonged completely to the Railsplitters as they limited the Fying Fleet to a goose egg for the remainder of the game while pouring on seven runs throughout the remainder of the game.

Trailing 0-3 in the second inning, Cameron Bowen hit a rocket over the wall to give Lincoln Memorial its first run of the game, cutting the score to 3-1. After retiring the side and getting back into the box, Carson Boles connected on a single up the middle, bringing home Kasten Harvey and Colin Goda to knot the game at crooked numbers, 3-3.

It was the ninth inning heroics of Chris Hall that allowed the Railsplitters to inevitably secure victory. With the game knotted at 3-3, Hall stepped to the plate with bases loaded and crushed a grand slam, giving the Railsplitters a 7-3 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. High-quality pitching and fielding saw the Flying Fleet grounded, unable to find any success on the sticks, allowing the Railsplitters to secure the mid-week victory.
