Women's basketball sweeps Tusculum in regular season

Greeneville, TN - The Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team was back in action on Wednesday night, on the road at Tusculum. Earlier this season, the Lady Railsplitters dismantled the Lady Pioneers at home, 87-57, and were seeking a repeat on the road. Lincoln Memorial entered the game with a 15-7 record overall and a 10-6 mark in conference play. For Tusculum, it's been a long year, as the Lady Pioneers stumbled into the game with a 3-19 record overall and a 1-15 mark in SAC play.

The first half of the game was extremely competitive, as neither team could find consistent rhythm on offense. The teams traded buckets over the course of the first few minutes, seeing the Lady Pioneers take a slim 10-7 lead with 4:15 remaining in the opening frame. The Lady Splitters closed the first period on a 9-1 run to take a 16-11 lead at the first horn. Tusculum responded with a 6-0 run to start the second half, regaining the lead at 17-16 with 7:52 left before the half. The lead was short-lived as the Lady Splitters regained the lead just moments later. After working out to a 21-19 lead midway through the second quarter, Tusculum tied the game at 21-21. From there, the Lady Splitters outscored the Lady Pioneers 11-9 to take a slim 32-30 lead into the locker room at the half.

Neither team was able to score to start the back half of the game, with both going scoreless for the first 2:20 of the third period before the Lady Splitters netted a three to take a five point lead. The lead would grow to as many as eight, with Lincoln Memorial holding a 42-36 advantage heading into the final frame. The Lady Splitters' defense began to lock down the Lady Pioneers on offense. As play resumed in the final frame, Lincoln Memorial's lead grew to 11 points, 47-36, with 9:12 remaining. Tusculum was unable to overcome the deficit built throughout the game, inevitably falling to Lincoln Memorial, 60-51.

Although neither team shot an eye-popping percentage, the Lady Splitters connected on 10 shots from beyond the arc, including six three pointers made by Alexa Smiddy, en route to scoring a game-high 24 points.

Lincoln Memorial was led in scoring by Alexa Smiddy with 24 points. She was followed by Lauren Flowers with 17 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double, Jordan Maney with eight points, Geovana Rios with seven points and nine rebounds. Chloe Savage and Zyan Smith added two points each for the Lady Splitters.
