Newberry, SC - The Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team took to Newberry, SC on Saturday for a conference match up with the Newberry Lady Wolves. The Lady Splitters were fresh off of a win on the road at Tusculum, and were looking to maintain momentum late in the season. Lincoln Memorial entered the contest with a 16-7 record, including a 12-6 record in SAC play. Newberry entered the contest with a 8-17 record with a 6-11 mark in conference play.
The game was nearly even after the first quarter, with the Lady Splitters maintaining a slim 15-14 victory. Lincoln Memorial ratcheted up both offensive and defensive intensity in the second quarter, limiting the Lady Wolves to just 12 points for the period while scoring 21 to take a 36-26 victory into the halftime intermission. Newberry attempted to claw back into the game on the heels of a strong third quarter, outscoring Lincoln Memorial 21-18 to cut the deficit to seven points. However, the Lady Splitters saved their best for last, torching the nets for 26 points in the final frame, allowing Lincoln Memorial to inevitably pull away and secure an 80-68 victory.
The Lady Splitters were led by
Jordan Maney with 20 points and eight rebounds. She was followed by
Lauren Flowers with 15 points.
Alexa Smiddy added 12 points and six assists.
Jamyah Winter was white hot during her time on the court. In just 10 minutes of game time, she tallied 12 points on 4-of-8 attempts from long range, adding three boards in the process.
Chloe Savage added 11 points and five rebounds.
Geovana Rios and
Jazzmen Robinson tallied four points apiece.
Matty Tanner added two points to round out scoring for Lincoln Memorial.
With the victory, the Lady Splitters improved to 17-7 on the season with a 12-6 mark in conference play.
