Harrogate, TN - One week after seeing its six game winning streak snapped on the road at Carson-Newman, the Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team was back in action at home against Emory & Henry on Wednesday night. The Railsplitters entered the contest with a 15-6 record overall, including a 9-3 mark in conference play.
It was evident from the jump that the game would belong to the Railsplitters. After winning the tip-off and scoring in the first five seconds of the game, it was off to the races for the Railsplitters. Lincoln Memorial launched out to a 32-8 lead with nine minutes still remaining in the first half. The Wasps finally broke the double digit mark on the scoreboard at the 8:45 mark of the first half. Martez Brown had already tallied a double-double, hauling in his 10th rebound of the contest, and the 800th for his career. The Railsplitters continued to cook, seemingly unstoppable. extending their lead to 30 points by the 4:45 mark of the first half, 47-17. Lincoln Memorial took a 54-26 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Railsplitters shot a blistering 63% from the floor in the first half, including a 53.8% mark from long range. Lincoln Memorial was also relentless on the glass, out rebounding the Wasps 27-13. Brown, himself, had 12 rebounds for the Splitters, nearly matching Emory & Henry's total as a team for the first half.
With the game firmly in hand, Lincoln Memorial went into cruise control. The Railsplitters inserted their reserves early in the second half. Lincoln Memorial limited Emory & Henry to just 29.7% shooting from the floor in the second half of the game, including an 18.2% mark from the floor, with two made threes on 11 attempts, limiting the Wasps to their second lowest point total of the season. The Railsplitters maintained offensive efficiency in the second half, connecting on 48.1% of attempts from the floor and 11-of-12 attempts from the charity stripe, en route to securing a 93-67 victory.
Lincoln Memorial dominated the paint, out scoring Emory & Henry 52-26 on the interior. The Railsplitters won the battle on the glass 44-36.
Lincoln Memorial was led in scoring by
Martez Brown, who tallied his national-best 15th double-double of the season with 22 points and 17 rebounds. He was followed by
Jordan Walters with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
Wes Enis chipped in 13 points.
Chase Rankin added 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in 29 minutes of action.
Me'Kell Burries tallied nine points on 4-of-5 shooting with seven assists and four rebounds in 23 minutes of game time.
Osmar Garcia-Araujo added eight points in 14 minutes.
Jay Boyd chipped in seven points and three rebounds.
Matthew Sells and
Thomas Allard added three points apiece.
Elijah Bredwood added a bucket to round out scoring for the Railsplitters.
With the victory, Lincoln Memorial moved to 16-6 overall on the season, with a 10-3 in conference play. The Railsplitters will be back in action on Saturday at home against Mars Hill.
