Softball Grabs Wins Against Shorter and Montevallo

Huntsville, AL- The Lincoln Memorial Softball team won both their games in Day Two of the Charger Chillout hosted by the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

The first game of the day featured LMU pitted against Shorter University. The Lady Railsplitters would strike first on the day, with RBI hits from Sterre den Duijn and Katie Tuggle to put up two runs in the first frame. Reese Vivrette would add to the count in the top of the second, hitting a double to score Nicole Couvertiere. The fourth inning would bring four more across the plate for Lincoln Memorial, with Madison Henry and Hannah Bogoski both earning their first RBIs on the day alongside den Duijn and Tuggle adding to their respective RBI totals. Shorter's fourth inning rally would be silenced with Anna Kate Reichter adding to the hit total and Madison Henry scoring on smart base running in the top of the fifth. The runs would keep coming in the sixth and seventh innings as Couvertiere would score her second run of the day and Tuggle would get her sixth hit of the day, leaving the final score with LMU on top, 11-6.

In the second game of the day, the opponents in Montevallo would be the ones out in front for most of the game. Reese Vivrette and Katie Tuggle would both get hits in early innings to keep it close, but LMU would find themselves at a three run deficit going into the bottom of the fifth. Vivrette would single to left in the bottom of the frame, opening the door to some defensive miscues leading to Couvertiere, Tuggle, and Bogoski crossing the plate. Vivrette would do the same on another error to put up four runs in the half inning. A solid defensive effort would maintain the lead and give the Lady Railsplitters their second win 6-5.

With Saturday's games of the Charger Chillout cancelled, Lincoln Memorial improves to 3-5 on the season and will be back in action at home against King University on Wednesday, February 14th. The doubleheader is slated for 1 PM and 3 PM at Dorothy Neely Field.
