Lady Splitters rain on Saints' parade

Harrogate, TN - six days after falling to the Alabama-Huntsville Lady Chargers in the season opener, the Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team downed Thomas More in emphatic fashion, earning its first victory of the season to improve to 1-1. Water wasn't the only thing raining on Friday. It was also raining goals and assists from Lincoln Memorial as they scored 24 goals, its highest total since Feb. 26, 2022 against Asbury.

To start the game, the Lady Splitters came out white-hot, scoring the game's first five goals. Amber Kirkpatrick tallied the game's first goal on an assist from Jaedyn Ryba. Ryba then got in on the scoring action, netting the game's next two goals, with an assist credited to Camryn Bullard on Ryba's first goal. Being a player down didn't deter Lincoln Memorial, as Chandler Bell drove the frame, netting her first goal of the contest with 11:50 left in the first on the assist from Josie Tinnerello, giving the Lady Splitters a quick 4-0 lead. Bullard added another goal at the 10:35 mark with an assist from Breanna Booth to give Lincoln Memorial a 5-0 lead early in the game.

Thomas More responded with three unanswered goals to cut the deficit to 5-3 near the end of the first period. Tinerello added one more goal for Lincoln Memorial, bringing the score to 6-3 at the end of the first. The second quarter belonged to the Saints. As the rain began to pour, it seemed to put out the offensive fire that had built early on by the Lady Splitters. Bell and Am. Kirkpartick each added a goal apiece to increase the Lincoln Memorial lead to 8-3. The Lady Saints then rattled off six unanswered goals to take their first lead of the game, which would hold at the half, 9-8.

Women's lacrosse head coach Alyssa Shaver made incredible adjustments at halftime. Lincoln Memorial came out in the second half playing as if possessed, rattling off 15 unanswered goals. Ryba scored the first two goals of the second half with Bell assisting on the second. Booth scored unassisted. Tinnerello then scored on an assist from Bullard. Haleigh Barnett then scored on an assist from Bell. Bell scored unassisted. Am. Kirkpatrick scored, assisted by Bell. Tinerello scored the next two goals within 19-seconds with assists from Bell and Bullard. Bullard then scored unassisted. Liza Buckner found the net next. Barnett then scored unassisted. Ana Carney then scored unassisted, bringing the score to a whopping 23-9. Thomas More added its final goal on a man-advantage with 4:30 remaining. Bell scored the game's final goal with an assist from Am. Kirkpatrick.

With the victory, the Lady Splitters moved to 1-1 on the season and will be back in action against Lee University on Feb. 13, with first draw set for 3:00 PM.
