Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Avenges Saturday Loss with Sunday Win

Harrogate, TN- Men's volleyball avenge their loss from yesteday with a win over Mount Olive in Mary Mars Gymnasium today. The Railsplitters lost yesterday's match 1-3 while taking the five set thriller today. The split moves Lincoln Memorial to 12-5 on the season.

Mount Olive would come out swinging, literally, hitting .300 on the game to give the team a tall task. Two Railsplitters would tally double-digit kills on the game in Johan Negron (16) and Matthew Gentry (10). Gentry would also lead the team in blocks, having five block assists on the night as part of the team's 14 total. It wouldn't be enough, however, to outdo the three Trojans with 13 or more kills. The Trojans would also put up 40 digs on the day, making it difficult for the Railsplitters to gain consistent momentum. Despite playing every set close, it would not be enough to keep the home win streak alive.

Sunday would be equally as tough of a fight for the team. This game, the Railsplitters would come out on top in hitting percentage. The first set would be a solid start, Lincoln Memorial hitting .389 in the frame. Mount Olive would answer with a .389 of their own to take the second. The third set would be just as tight, including 12 ties and six lead changes. Defense would be the name of the set, especially with the team hitting .091 in the frame. LMU would edge it out, taking the set 28-26. UMO wouldn't go away quietly, though, storming back to take the fourth. A decisive fifth set would give the Railsplitters the needed momentum to win the contest. Kutsch would set the underclassmen, giving Negron, Griffin Wheatley, and Axel van Baars all 13+ kills on the game. Key defense from Tate Colebaugh (13 digs) and Ethan Morgan (eight block assists) would also be the needed foundation for the win.

LMU will be back in action on the road at Thomas More University in Crestview Hills, KY, on Friday, March 15th, at 6 PM.
