Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Adds Three Wins in Weekend Road Trip

Wilberforce, OH- Men's Volleyball hit the road this weekend, playing one contest on Friday, March 15th, and two on Saturday, March 16th. LMU would take all three contests, defeating Thomas More on Friday 3-1 and both D'Youville and Central State in 3-0 sweeps on Saturday.

The first contest with Thomas More would set the tone for the weekend. A 0.4 hitting percentage in the first set would propel the Railsplitters to a 25-19 first set victory. The Saints would answer with a scrappy second set to even the match at 1-1. LMU would amp up the intensity, however, and take the third and fourth in dominance, including a 0.5 hitting percentage in the fourth. Griffin Wheatley would lead the team in kills on the game, posting 11 in the contest. Matthew Gentry and Kohl Kutsch would contribute their pieces as well, Gentry adding nine digs and Kutsch with five tallied blocks, both players with two service aces on their stat lines. Eliel Salva Torres would also have himself a game, posting seven kills on only ten attempts.

Wheatley would put it on repeat for Saturday, leading the team in kills once again with 12 in their sweep victory over D'Youville. Justin Sharfenaker would add seven to the kill column for the Railsplitters in just his second game back since the end of January due to injury. Gentry and Kutsch would once again show their contributions in the stat sheet with Gentry's three service aces and Kutsch's three blocks and five digs on the game. Libero Tate Colebaugh would add five digs of his own to help LMU in their win. 25-21, 25-17, 25-17 would make up the set scores in the sweep.

The second game on Saturday would feature an obliterating 25-14, 25-13, 25-14 win over Central State. Wheatley would once again lead in kills, posting 11 in the match. Matthew Gentry and Axel van Baars would also be kill leaders, earning eight and seven, respectively. Luigi Pacini would step into the role of setter in this one, posting 33 assists, 14 digs, and even two blocks in his own stat line.

The games improve Lincoln Memorial to 15-5 on the season. Their next action will be against King on Tuesday, March 19th, at home in Mary Mars Gymnasium starting at 6 PM.
