Hickory, NC - The Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team was faced with a tough task on Saturday, seeking to take down the defending DII men's lacrosse national champion and currently No.3 ranked Lenoir-Rhyne Bears at their place.
Saturday's game favored the Bears in every aspect. From the jump, Lenoir-Rhyne took control of the game, and never loosened its grip. With six goals in the first period, the Bears maintained a 6-0 lead at the first horn as Lincoln Memorial was unable to find any offense. The second quarter mirrored the first, with Lenoir-Rhyne tallying six goals, and holding the Railsplitters scoreless, to take a 12-0 lead into the halftime intermission.
The third quarter was the best of the game for Lincoln Memorial, with both goals being scored. It was also the least amount allowed by the Railsplitters throughout the game. The Bears narrowly edged the Railsplitters in the third, 4-2.
Daniel Pearl tallied Lincoln Memorial's first goal of the game with 10:39 left in the third. In the final minute of the third quarter,
Gavin Reid added a goal with an assist from
Brock Saunders. The final frame mirrored the first and second quarters, with Lenoir-Rhyne outscoring Lincoln Memorial 6-0 in the fourth quarter to secure a 22-2 victory.
With the loss, the Railsplitters moved to 3-7 with an 0-4 mark in conference play. Lincoln Memorial will get a week of much needed rest following three consecutive road trips before a home stand against Catawba on Mar. 23.
