Men's lacrosse falls in hard-fought game with Catawba

Harrogate, TN - Seeking to avoid a six game losing streak, the Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team was in action on Saturday at home against the visiting Catawba Indians. Unfortunately, the Railsplitters didn't have enough to overcome the Indians, falling 12-9 in regulation. With the loss, Lincoln Memorial moved to 3-8 on the season with an 0-5 mark in conference play.

The Indians came out of the gate aggressively, scoring the game's first two goals, taking a 2-0 lead. In an attempt to stop the early bleeding Rhodes Conroy netted his first goal of the game in the waning minutes of the first quarter, bringing the score to 2-1. Catawba added one more goal before the first horn to increase its lead to 3-1. Conroy again answered the bell adding his second goal of the game to start the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Back-to-back goals gave the Indians a 5-2 lead midway through the second quarter. Brock Saunders added his first goal of the game with 9:10 remaining in the second quarter, bringing the score to 5-3. The teams traded goals for the remainder of the first half, with each adding two goals in the final 8:45 of the half. Catawba scored the next four goals, spanning the entire third period, stretching into the final frame, taking an 11-5 lead. Lincoln Memorial failed to lay over, fighting hard in the final frame with four goals throughout the period, matching its best of the game. Cole Morris earned his hat trick in the fourth quarter, adding two goals late. Conroy added onto his goal total, scoring one goal in the fourth, and Jordan Castro worked his way into the scoring column with an assist from John Lombel.
