Men's lacrosse torches Tusculum

Harrogate, TN - After finding itself on a six game losing streak, the Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team tallied a much needed victory at home on Wednesday. With sunshine in abundance, the Railsplitters welcomed the Pioneers of Tusculum to Harrogate for an in-conference showdown. Both teams were desperately seeking a win with Lincoln Memorial sitting 3-8 overall and 0-5 in conference play, and Tusculum 1-10 on the season with an 0-6 mark in conference play. The Railsplitters downed the Pioneers 17-7 scoring their third highest goal total of the season, and the highest total since early February.

From the start it would appear that Tusculum was in for a fun day, but things quickly changed as the Lincoln Memorial offense began to find its groove. With the Pioneers leading 2-0, the offensive onslaught began for the Railsplitters. Rhodes Conroy and Francis O'Hara tied the game at 2-2, scoring back-to-back goals within 26-seconds of each other. In the blink of an eye, the game had shifted. The Railsplitters added six unanswered goals to take a commanding 8-2 lead. Cole Morris tallied a goal with help from Ashton Wilson with 5:17 left in the first quarter, giving Lincoln Memorial its first lead of the game, 3-2. 48-seconds later, Daniel Pearl added his first goal of the game to increase the margin. Aiden Smith tallied a goal, unassisted, with 3:26 left in the opening quarter. In the dwindling seconds of the first quarter, Brock Saunders gave the Railsplitters a 6-2 lead, netting a goal with 19-seconds left before the horn.

The Lincoln Memorial offensive flurry continued into the second quarter. Gavin Reid buried a rocket 23-seconds into the second period with an assist from Jenson Jones. Cole Morris added his second goal of the game just 15-seconds later, capping off an 8-0 Lincoln Memorial run. Tusculum managed one goal in response before Lincoln Memorial began to pour salt in the wound. Leading 8-3, the Railsplitters added three more goals in the final six minutes of first half action. Jack Snider tallied his first goal with 5:22 remaining, extending the Railsplitter lead to 9-3. O'hara tallied his second of the game just moments later, increasing the margin to seven goals. Pearl added his second of the game as time expired on the first half, seeing Lincoln Memorial take a substantial 11-3 lead into the half.

With the game firmly in hand, Lincoln Memorial's offense simmered down a bit, halving its performance from the first, but still managing to outscore Tusculum 6-4 on the back end. Jones got in on the scoring action to open the second half. Daniel Pearl tallied his hatter with 9:22 left in the third on an assist from Kevin Jendrasik, giving the Railsplitters a 13-4 lead. Morris tallied his hatter with an assist from Conroy with 6:35 left in the third, extending the Lincoln Memorial lead to 14-5. Conroy got back in on the scoring action, tallying his second of the game with 45-seconds left in the third period with an assist from Ashton Wilson. Jendrasik tallied a goal with an assist from Saunders to close the third quarter, seeing the Railsplitters take a 16-5 lead into the final frame. The lone bright spot of the game for Tusculum was outscoring Lincoln Memorial 2-1 in the final period. Wilson added a goal with 7:50 left to give the Railsplitters their final goal of the game. By the final horn, Lincoln Memorial had secured a 17-7 victory.

With the win, the Railsplitters improved to 4-8 on the season with a 1-5 mark in conference play. It'll be a quick turn around for Lincoln Memorial, taking to the road on Saturday at #5 Wingate.
