Wingate, NC - The Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team was back in action on Saturday after tallying its first conference win of the season against Tusculum, snapping a six game losing streak. The Railsplitters faced a tough task in Saturday's road contest, taking on the 8th-ranked Wingate Bulldogs.who were tied for second in conference play with defending national champion Lenoir-Rhyne. Lincoln Memorial was 4-8 overall with a 1-5 mark in conference play prior to the contest.
Lincoln Memorial tallied the game's first goal when
Daniel Pearl found the back of the net on an assist from
Rhodes Conroy. However, Wingate answered back with six consecutive goals to take a commanding 6-1 lead in the first quarter. With 4:44 left in the opening stanza,
Jenson Jones tallied a goal on an assist from
Gavin Reid to slightly chip away at the Bulldog lead. Wingate added one more goal in the first quarter to take a 7-2 lead into the second. The Bulldogs were the first to strike in the second quarter, extending their lead to 8-2. the Railsplitters answered back with a goal from Conroy, bringing the score to 8-3. It was the last goal of the game for Lincoln Memorial. Wingate would go on to add 15 more goals, taking a decisive 23-3 decision at home over the visiting Railsplitters.Â
With the loss, Lincoln Memorial moved to 4-9 on the season with a 1-6 mark in conference play. Next up will be the final road trip of the regular season as the Railsplitters head to Mars Hill for a match up with the Lions on April 10.
