Men's lacrosse falls in double OT

Mars Hill, NC - More than a week after falling to Wingate on the road, the Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team took to the road for its final road game of the regular season, taking on the Mars Hill Lions. Prior to the game, the Railsplitters were 4-9 on the season with a 1-6 mark in conference play.

Wednesday's game started with the home standing Lions racing out to a 2-0 lead before the Railsplitters responded with back-to-back goals in less than a minute from Jenson Jones and Kevin Jendrasik with Daniel Pearl assisting on Jendrasik's goal, tying the game at 2-2 with 5:56 remaining in the first. Mars Hill regained the lead with 3:17 left in the opening frame, 3-2. Rhodes Conroy knotted the game at 3-3 before the first horn, scoring unassisted. Lincoln Memorial took its first lead of the game, 4-3. with 5:15 left in the second quarter as Pearl tallied his first goal of the game with an assist from Rhodes Conroy. The Lions once again knotted the game prior to the second horn, seeing the teams head to the locker room knotted at 4-4.

The second half, and then some, of the game saw the majority of the offense with both teams adding six more goals each in regulation. The Railsplitters came out of the half with the pedal to the metal, scoring the first two goals of the second half to take a 6-4 lead. Conroy netted his second goal of the game with an assist from Francis O'Hara and Cole Morris tallied his first as Pearl recorded his second assist of the game. Mars Hill added a goal in response before O'Hara extended the lead back to two goals, 7-5, with an assist from Jones. The Lions chipped in another goal just before the end of the third period, leaving the score slightly in favor of Lincoln Memorial, 7-6.

The fourth quarter was an offensive flurry as the two teams combined for seven goals, with the Lions forcing overtime. Leading 7-6, Rhodes Conroy tallied his hatter with an assist from Pearl, extending the lead to 8-6. Kameron Diehlman then tallied his first goal of the game with an assist from Conroy, giving Lincoln Memorial a 9-6 lead. Mars Hill began to charge back, scoring four unanswered goals to take a 10-9 lead with just under five minutes remaining. Conroy answered the bell, tying the game at 10-10 with just over three minutes remaining with an assist from Jones, forcing overtime. Neither team found a closing goal in the first overtime, forcing a second. However, in the second overtime, with 1:42 remaining on the clock, the Lions netted the game-winning goal, taking an 11-10 victory in double overtime.

With the loss, Lincoln Memorial moved to 4-10 on the season with a 1-7 mark in conference play.
