Hickory, NC - After falling to Anderson on the road last week, the Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team bounced back in style with an overtime win on the road against the Lenoir-Rhyne Lady Bears on Saturday, claiming a 10-9 victory in overtime.
The first quarter of the game was an offensive flurry from both teams, with both the Lady Bears and Lady Splitters tallying three goals each. Lenoir-Rhyne took a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes, but Lincoln Memorial stormed back with three straight goals.
Amber Kirkpatrick tallied the Lady Splitters' first goal, unassisted. On a man-advantage,
Haleigh Barnett tallied the second goal of the game, assisted by
Chandler Bell. A mere :41-seconds later,
Breanna Booth added Lincoln Memorial's third goal of the game, assisted by Kirkpatrick, taking a 3-2 lead. The Lady Bears added one more goal in the first quarter, tying the game at 3-3.
The second quarter belonged solely to Lenoir-Rhyne, outscoring Lincoln Memorial 4-1 in the period.
Jaiden Jaynes added the lone goal for the Lady Splitters in the second, assisted by Bell, seeing Lenoir-Rhyne take a 7-4 lead into the halftime intermission.
The third quarter was the exact opposite, as the Lady Splitters dominated the Lady Bears 4-1 for the period. Following a Lenoir-Rhyne goal to start the third, to bring the score to 8-4, Lincoln Memorial rattled off four straight goals to tie the game at 8-8 heading into the final frame. Jaynes tallied the first goal of the third for the Lady Splitters, assisted by Bell.
Josie Tinnerello got in on the action, scoring her first goal of the game unassisted. :35-seconds later, Tinnerello tallied her second goal of the game on a man-advantage, unassisted. In the final minute of the third, Bell got in on the scoring action, assisted by Kirkpatrick, tying the game 8-8.
The fourth quarter was a deadlock, seeing the game tied at the end of regulation, 9-9.
Tinerello tallied her hat trick to start the third, assisted by Booth, taking a 9-8 lead. Lenoir-Rhyne added a goal with 5:33 remaining in the game, tying the game at 9-9, forcing overtime. Seeking some overtime heroics, the Lady Splitters turned to Kirkpatrick on a man-advantage, who tallied the game-winning goal in overtime, assisted by Bell, seeing Lincoln Memorial take a 10-9 overtime victory on the road in Hickory.
