Women's lacrosse emerges victorious over Catawba

Harrogate, TN - Following a one point overtime win on the road at Lenoir-Rhyne, the Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team tallied its third win in four games, taking care of business against the visiting Catawba Lady Indians on Saturday, 13-6. With the victory, Lincoln Memorial improved to 4-7 overall with a 3-2 mark in conference play.

The Lady Splitters controlled Saturday's game from the first draw until the finish. Wasting no time in getting on the scoreboard, Josie Tinnerello put Catawba on notice early on, netting a goal unassisted at the 12:09 mark. The Lady Indians responded with a goal eight seconds later to tie the game at 1-1. Less than a minute after the Catawba goal, Haleigh Barnett got in on the action, scoring her first goal of the game with the assist from Tinnerello. Once again, the Lady Indians answered back with a goal, knotting the game at 2-2. It was the last goal for Catawba for quite some time. From there, the Lady Splitters began to pour it on. On the heels of a 7-0 run, Lincoln Memorial took a substantial 9-2 lead as the clock bled into the second quarter. With the type of defense they were playing, the Lady Splitters could have gone the rest of the game without scoring a goal, and still taken victory. Following goals from Tinnerello and Barnett, Barnett tallied her second, assisted by Chandler Bell. Jaedyn Ryba got in on the action, scoring unassisted to give LMU a 4-2 lead. Chandler Bell tallied back-to-back goals within a :70-second time span, extending the lead to 6-2 at the end of the first period. Liza Buckner tallied her first goal of the game to start the second quarter, bringing the score to 7-2. Amber Kirkpatrick then worked her way into the scoring column with an assist from Chandler Bell, extending the Lady Splitters' lead to 8-2. Tinnerello added her second goal of the game with 10:42 remaining in the second, giving Lincoln Memorial a 9-2 lead. Catawba answered with a goal to chip away at the deficit, 9-3. Failing to relent, Lincoln Memorial tallied the next two goals. Jaiden Jaynes tallied her first goal of the game with 3:22 left in the first half, on the assist from Bell. Giving the Lady Splitters a 10-3 lead at the half.

With the game firmly in hand, Lincoln Memorial began to enact a time consuming strategy. However, that didn't stop Tinnerello from tallying the hat trick to start the third, adding her third goal on the assist from Deadre Jackson, extending the Lady Splitters' leas to 11-3. The Lady Indians added back-to-back goals, drawing the score back to within six, 11-5. Lincoln Memorial answered back with a pair of goals, its final two of the game. Kirkpatrick added her second goal of the game with 10:30 left in regulation and Tinnerello added her fourth goal of the game with 7:47 left in the game. The Lady Indians would add one more goal, but it was futile. The clock struck zeroes, seeing the Lady Splitters secure their third victory in four games, winning their second game in a row.

Lincoln Memorial will be back in action on Wednesday, seeking a third straight victory, as Tusculum comes to town.
