Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team is finding its footing at the right time. The Railsplitters took care of business at home against Tusculum on Wednesday, tallying a 16-8 victory, extending their winning streak to three games, and have now won four out of their last five contests. Prior the the game, Lincoln Memorial was 4-7 overall with a 3-2 mark in conference play.
Tusculum tallied the game's first goal, but Lincoln Memorial responded with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead.
Josie Tinnerello tallied her first goal of the game with 11:37 remaining in the first with an assist from
Chandler Bell.
Liza Buckner then gave the Railsplitters the lead with 8:55 remaining in the first.
Amber Kirkpatrick gave Lincoln Memorial its third goal with 7:00 left in the first with an assist from Bell. Tusculum responded with two goals to tie the game at 3–3 with 2:46 remaining in the first quarter. However, Kirkpatrick, with an assist from Bell, gave Lincoln Memorial a 4–3 lead to close out the opening period, seeing Kirkpatrick tally the first half hatter. On a man-advantage, the Pioneers chipped away at the lead scoring a goal with 11:11 remaining in the second. Tinnerello tallied the next two goals for Lincoln Memorial with assists from Kirkpatrick and
Jaiden Jaynes, seeing the Railsplitters take a 6–4 lead into the half.
Lincoln Memorial uncorked its offense in the second half out scoring Tusculum 10–4. To start the second half, the tandem of Kirkpatrick and Bell hooked up for the third time of the game, seeing the Railsplitters take a 7–4 lead. Buckner then tallied her second goal of the game with 9:32 remaining in the third, extending the lead to 8–4. Bell got on the scoring action a mere 25-seconds later, further extending the lead to 9–4. The Pioneers added one goal in response, before Tinnerello rattled off back to back goals, with Bell assisting on the second goal. Having already tallied the hat-trick in the first half, she was well on her way to the double hatter. Leading 11–5 heading into the final frame, Lincoln Memorial again poured on five goals. Tusculum struck first, chipping away at the lead 11–6. However, Kirkpatrick answered with a goal with 12:05 remaining in the fourth, extending the lead back to six goals, 12–6. Tusculum then scored back-to-back goals, which would prove to be its final two of the game. Leading 12–8 the Railsplitters scored the game's final four goals to secure a 16–8 victory.
Haleigh Barnett scored her first goal of the game with 10:04 remaining. After having assisted Kirkpatrick three times on the day, Bell found herself on the receiving end of a Kirkpatrick assist, scoring her second goal of the game with 8:24 left. With 2:45 left in the game, Tinnerello tallied her double-hatter, and Bell added her sixth assist of the game.
Liza Buckner tallied her hat trick with 1:16 remaining in the game, seeing Lincoln Memorial take a 16–8 victory.
With the victory, Lincoln Memorial improved to 5-7 on the season with a 4-2 mark in conference play. There won't be much time to rest for the Railsplitters as they take to the road Saturday for a match up with #15 Wingate.
