Women's lacrosse falls to #16 Limestone in hard-fought game

Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team was back on home turf Saturday afternoon, hosting the 16th-ranked Limestone Saints in its conference opener. The Lady Splitters faced an uphill battle, playing their fourth ranked opponent in a row. Although the game didn't go the way the Lady Splitters wanted after a tough stint in Florida, a hard-fought game with No. 16 Limestone showed a lot of promise for Lincoln Memorial.

From the jump, the Lady Splitters proved that they weren't going to go easily. Ana Carney scored the game's first goal unassisted with 9:28 remaining in the first quarter. Limestone answered with a goal from Jenna Kiley at the 8:42 mark unassisted, knotting the score at 1-1. Josie Tinnerello gave Lincoln Memorial the lead with an assist from Liza Buckner with 2:36 remaining in the first quarter. The Lady Saints scored the next three goals unanswered to take a 4-2 lead early in the second quarter. Jaiden Jaynes cut the deficit back to one goal, 4-3, with an assist from Chandler Bell at the 9:47 mark of the second quarter. Limestone answered with another goal to reapply a two point deficit, 5-3, before Jaedyn Reba cut it back to one, 5-4, with 7:37 remaining in first half.

It would be the last goal Lincoln Memorial would score until the fourth period. Spanning from the second quarter, all the way through the third, the Lady Saints poured on eight unanswered goals to take a commanding 12-4 lead heading into the final frame. Tinnerello and Jaynes would each add one more goal in the fourth period, while Limestone added one more, bringing the game to its final score 13-6. With the loss, Lincoln Memorial moved to 1-6 on the season with an 0-1 mark in conference play. The Lady Splitters will be on the road until late March, beginning with a road trip to Mars Hill on March 6th.
