Mars Hill, NC - Following a hard-fought game against Limestone on Saturday, the Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team was back in action on the road in Mars Hill, NC to take on the Lady Lions of Mars Hill. The Lady Splitters entered the contest 1-6 with an 0-1 mark in conference play and were seeking to avoid a sixth straight loss, as well as earn their first conference win of the season.
It was clear from the start that Lincoln Memorial was there for two reasons: two chew some bubble gum, and to win a game, and they were all out of bubble gum. It took 64-seconds for the Lady Splitters to gain a lead.
Deadre Jackson scored the game's first goal on an assist from
Chandler Bell. Mars Hill answered with a goal to tie the game 1-1. Just one minute later,
Jessie McKilligan gave Lincoln Memorial the lead with another assist from Bell. It was the first of six unanswered goals from the Lady Splitters. After the goal by McKilligan, Jackson scored her second goal of the game with an assist from
Amber Kirkpatrick, and
Halle Hensley tallied her first goal unassisted. Both were scored on a man-advantage.
Josie Tinnerello then added a goal with an assist from
Sophia Gardea, bringing the score to 5-1 in favor of the Lady Splitters. Not even close to done, Lincoln Memorial then added another goal, this time from Kirkpatrick, assisted by Bell.
Liza Buckner netted her first goal of the game with 5:21 remaining in the first, giving the Lady Splitters a commanding 7-1 lead.
The Lady Lions added another goal in the first, then the Lady Splitters rattled off five more in a row to start the second quarter. McKilligan tallied her second of the game on the assist by Jackson, followed by a gaol from
Jaiden Jaynes. Buckner tallied her second of the game unassisted, followed by another goal from Kirkpatrick, assisted by Hensley. Hensley then added another goal for Lincoln Memorial, to bring the score to 12-2 in the waning minutes of the first half.
Things continued to snowball for Lincoln Memorial, completely dominating the third period. The Lady Splitters didn't allow a single goal in the third period, while scoring five unanswered.
Haleigh Barnett tallied her first of the game on the assist from Kirkpatrick.
Deadre Jackson tallied the hat trick, scoring her third goal unassisted in the third period. Rudy Lyles tallied her first goal of the game with an assist from Barnett, and Bell scored a goal assisted by McKilligan to give the Lady Splitters a 16-2 lead heading into the final frame. To start the fourth, Lincoln Memorial would not relent. McKilligan tallied her hat trick with an assist from Jackson, who tallied her hat trick earlier in the game. Mars Hill
finally answered back with a goal in the fourth, bringing the score to 17-3. Following the Lady Lions' goal, Bell tallied back-to-back goals, both assisted by Jackson, seeing Bell record
her hat trick as well. McKilligan then added her fourth goal of the game, assisted by
Briana Martinez, bringing the score to 20-3; its final.
