Softball Sweeps Catawba on Sunday

Harrogate, TN- The Lincoln Memorial softball team would take both games on Sunday at home against Catawba by scores of 10-2 and 9-3.

LMU would start the offense early in game one and keep it rolling on the day. Sterre den Duijn would knock in a run in the bottom half of the first inning. The third inning would add to the lead, as Katy Pozzuto would send one over the left field wall followed by RBI hits from Hanna Bogoski and Gracie Palmer. Despite two runs from Catawba in the sixth, the Lady Splitters would have the answer as Madison Henry, Nicole Couvertiere, and Reese Vivrette would all get themselves into the RBI column to give the team the scores needed to end the game by run rule. Vivrette, den Duijn, Katie Tuggle, and Palmer would all have multi-hit performances in the contest. Margot van Eijl would be credited the win, striking out five in her complete game showing.

The second game would continue the momentum with a monstrous six-run first inning. With the bases loaded, Tuggle would step up to knock two across, followed soon by a run-scoring walk issued to Bogoski, and ending with a base clearing double from Palmer. Catawba would try to find an answer but Pozzuto and Vivrette would aid in scoring a couple more runs for the team to put the game out of reach. Victoria Conley would see the complete game on the mound, trusting her solid defense to help her improve to 6-3 on the year.

The wins move LMU to 19-15 (6-4) on the season. They'll return to the diamond on Wednesday, March 27th, to face Carson-Newman in a Wednesday doubleheader starting at 1 PM and 3 PM at Dorothy Neely Field in Harrogate.
