Salisbury, NC - The Lincoln Memorial baseball team took to Salisbury, NC on Friday for game one of a three game series with Catawba. After dropping two of three games last weekend against Tusculum, the Railsplitters were looking to get back into the win column and chip into the Indians' conference leading record.
To start the game, Lincoln Memorial tallied the first run. In the top of the first inning,
Carson Boles delivered a double to left field driving in
Kasten Harvey. Catawba knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning. In the top of the second, the Railsplitters were on the beneficial end of a passed ball, allowing
Ryan Kurth to cross home, giving Lincoln Memorial a 2-1 lead in the second inning. Great pitching and fielding from both teams in the third inning saw the score rest at 2-1 heading into the fourth inning. Catawba held Lincoln Memorial off the board in the fourth inning, and took the lead behind a three run inning, 4-2. The Railsplitters fought back in the top of the fifth, driving in two runs. Boles delivered his second RBI of the game with a sac-fly, bringing home
Austin Epperson. Moments later, Harvey scored on a wild pitch, knotting the game at 4-4. After retiring the side, Catawba took back over on offense and would take over the game. The Railsplitters were unable to find any more offense, as the Indians added three more runs through the remainder of the game, taking a 7-4 victory.
Game two is slated for 1:00 PM on Saturday, with game three to follow at 4:00 PM.
