Harrogate, TN - After dropping 2-of-3 games against the UVA-Wsie Cavaliers last weekend, the Lincoln Memorial baseball team was back in action on a dreary Wednesday in Harrogate, playing host to the Lee University Flames. It was the second meeting between the two this season, with Lee taking a 6-4 victory in Cleveland in the front-end of the home-and-home series. Lincoln Memorial entered the contest with a 13-5 record, including a 6-3 mark in conference play. The Flames were 12-6 ahead of the game.
The first inning was quiet, as each team was trying to find its footing, but it wouldn't stay that way. In the top of the second, the Flames blasted in five runs to take a 5-0 lead. Not to be detered, Lincoln Memorial repsonded with five runs of its own to tie the game at 5-5 heading into the third. After holding Lee to nothing in the third, the Railsplitters began to pour it on, tallying six runs in the third inning to take a commanding 11-5 lead. The Flames attempted to chip away at the lead, adding two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings, while holding the Railsplitters to just one run across that span, leaving the score at 12-9 after five. Neither team found any offense in the sixth inning, leaving Lincoln Memorial in control, 12-9. After
again retiring the Flames, the Railsplitters poured on four more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 16-9. Lee added a homer in the top of the eighth to cut the deficit to 16-10. The Railsplitters failed to add to their already substaintial run total in the eighth, taking a 16-10 lead into the final inning. Needing to retire the side to win, Lincoln Memorial gave up two runs on one hit, but tallied the final out of the game as the baserunner slid into third, securing a 16-12 victory, improving to 14-5 on the season.
Lincoln Memorial was led by
Carson Boles, Colin Goda, and
Ryan Kurth in RBI with three runs drove in apiece. Tyler Hagan and
Kasten Harvey followed with two RBI each.
Joey LaMattina and
Chris Hall drove in one run each. Harvey led hits with four hits in five at-bats. He was followed by Hall, Boles, Kurth, Hagan, and Goda with two hits apiece. LaMattina and
Austin Epperson added one hit each.
