Baseball decimates Limestone in game one

Gaffney, SC - The Lincoln Memorial baseball team was in action on Friday on the road in Gaffney, SC for a weekend series with the Limestone Saints. The Railsplitters entered the series with a 14-5 overall record, including a 6-3 mark in conference play. The Saints were 14-7 overall with a 7-2 record in conference play.

Game one was played Friday. Games two and three were slated for Saturday, but were pushed to Sunday due to inclement weather.

In game one against the Saints, there was never a question of who would win the game. Lincoln Memorial controlled the game from start to finish, on both sides of the ball.

Lincoln Memorial tallied its first run in the first inning as Austin Epperson drove in Kasten Harvey, giving the Railsplitters and early 1-0 lead. After retiring Limestone's offense, Lincoln Memorial extended its lead to 4-0 with three runs in the second inning. Colin Goda brought Ryan Kurth home on a sac-fly, Chris Hall drove in Sam Mast on a single to right field, and Carson Boles drove in Hall on a double. Once again, the Saints failed to produce anything offensively, due to the pitching and fielding of the Railsplitters. Already firmly in control, Lincoln Memorial elected to pour gas on the fire, tallying eight runs in the top of the third inning.

Sam Mast got things started in the third, driving in Tucker Hagan and Austin Epperson, further extending the Railsplitters' lead to 6-0. Hall then connected on a single, bringing Kurth home, giving Lincoln Memorial a 7-0 lead. Harvey then reached base on an error, also seeing Goda and Mast cross home, giving the Railsplitters a commanding 9-0 lead. Moments later, Boles connected on a double down the right field line, bringing Harvey and Hall, seeing the lead grow to 11-0. Boles would cross the plate on a fielding error, allowing Lincoln Memorial to post its 12th and final run of the game. From the bottom of the third inning to the bottom of the seventh, neither team was able to find any success on offense, seeing the Railsplitters secure a 12-0 victory, improving to 15-5 overall with a 7-3 mark in conference play.

Games two and three were postponed and will be played on Sunday.
