Harrogate, TN- Lincoln Memorial split games in their doubleheader against UVA Wise on Thursday. The team traveled to Wise, VA, falling to the Cavaliers 1-5 in the first then taking the second by a score of 9-0 in five innings.
The first game would feature Wise's hit column, totaling 10 on the game. The Cavaliers would be the first to strike, scoring five in the first two innings to put LMU chasing from behind for the duration of the game. Multi-hit showings from
Reese Vivrette and
Hanna Bogoski wouldn't be enough, however, to give the Railsplitters the momentum swing needed to get back in the game. LMU would finally get on the board in the top of the fifth inning,
Sterre den Duijn finding a gap to bring Vivrette across the plate for the lone run by the team.Â
The Railsplitters would flip the script in the second game, seven of them with at least one hit in the contest.
Gracie Palmer would open up scoring in the top of the second, hitting an RBI sacrifice fly to score
Katy Pozzuto. Vivrette would continue her own momentum, finding a hole for a double to score two more.
Anna Kate Reichter would add to the RBI column to let LMU take the lead 4-0. Palmer would hit yet another sacrifice fly ball in the top of the third to extend the lead to 5-0. The pressure would continue in the top of the fifth, Lincoln Memorial loading the bases with Palmer yet again up to bat. A throwing error would aid in growing the lead by scoring Tuggle. Vivrette's fifth hit of the day to score
Madison Henry and two sacrifice flies from Reichter and Bogoski would open the opportunity for the team to end the game by run rule at the end of the fifth inning.
Victoria Conley continues to be a force in the circle, improving to 6-1 on the season in her complete game win.
LMU moves to 14-12 (1-1) on the season, and will return to action at home on Wednesday, March 13th, for a doubleheader against SAC opponent Tusculum starting at 1 PM and 3 PM.Â
