Women's lacrosse falls to Newberry

Harrogate, TN - As the lacrosse regular season draws to a close, the Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team was looking to take care of business on Senior Day in its second-to-last home game of the regular season against the Newberry Wolves. After falling to UVA-Wise in a hard fought contest last weekend, the Railsplitters were looking to bounce back and gain some conference footing. Lincoln Memorial entered the game with a 5-9 record with a 4-4 mark in conference play.

The Railsplitters were the first on the board as Jaiden Jaynes tallied the game's first goal. However, Newberry answered with back-to-back goals, taking a 2-1 lead. Chandler Bell knotted the game at 2-2 in the final minute of the first quarter. The Wolves dominated the majority of the second quarter, scoring four unanswered goals and racing out to a 6-2 lead. Lincoln Memorial clawed back to within two goals with a score from Ana Carney, assisted by Bell, and a goal from Josie Tinnerello, leaving the score at 6-4 at the halftime break.

Newberry tallied two goals to start the third period to double the lead, 8-4. The Railsplitters responded with another goal from Tinerello before the Wolves added another goal to keep the deficit at four goals, 9-5, heading into the final frame. Lincoln Memorial wasted no time in scoring in the fourth as Jaynes netted the first goal in the first five seconds of the fourth quarter, assisted by Amber Kirkpatrick, cutting the deficit to 9-6. The Wolves added another goal, but the Railsplitters answered with two in a row from Liza Buckner and Carney, bringing the score to 10-8. It would inevitably become the closest that Lincoln Memorial would come to upending Newberry as the Wolves added another goal while holding the Railsplitters scoreless, securing an 11-8 victory in Harrogate.

The Railsplitters have one regular season game remaining; a home stand against the Emory & Henry Lady Wasps on Wednesday, with first draw slated for 3:00 PM at the LMU Lacrosse Complex.
