Baseball completes sweep of Emory & Henry

Emory, VA - After downing the Emory & Henry Wasps in both of the games of the Saturday double header, the Lincoln Memorial baseball team completed the clean sweep by winning game three 8-3 on Sunday. By completing the sweep, the Railsplitters improved to 22-13 on the season with a 14-10 mark in conference, putting an end to a five game skid.

Game three of the series began quietly, as both teams relied on solid pitching and defense to hold each other scoreless through two innings of action. In the top of the third inning, Lincoln Memorial was the first to strike. Carson Boles uncorked the offense with a double to left field, driving in Kasten Harvey and Tyler Boyd to give the Railsplitters a 2-0 lead. Lincoln Memorial yet again limited Emory & Henry to a goose egg in the bottom of the inning. Once again, the teams relied on pitching and defense in the fourth quarter, holding each other scoreless again, seeing the Railsplitters take a 2-0 lead into the fifth inning. Lincoln Memorial was able to add a pair of runs in the top of the inning to increase its lead to 4-0. Collin Goda blasted a solo shot and Alex Kowalski drove in Boles with a single to left field. The Wasps were unable to add any runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but limited the Railsplitters to nothing in the top of the sixth before getting on the board for the first time. After adding two runs in the bottom of the sixth, the Lincoln Memorial lead was cut in half, 4-2. Following a quiet seventh inning, the Railsplitters found more offensive success in the eighth inning, adding another pair of runs. Ryan Kurth blasted a solo shot to left center to increase the Lincoln Memorial lead to 5-2 and Goda drove in Deatric Alexander Jr. to extend the lead to 6-2. The Wasps added a homer in the bottom of the inning to chip away at the lead, 6-3. However, Lincoln Memorial was able to add another pair of runs in the final frame as Kurth singled to left field, allowing Kowalski and Cameron Bowen to cross the plate for the final runs of the game, seeing Lincoln Memorial take a 8-3 victory and complete the sweep.
