Belmont, NC – The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team takes down the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in 4 sets to begin their first win-streak of the season.
The first set would be a back-and-forth battle, as there were 9 lead changes throughout the set. Despite the high scoring quarter, Belmont Abbey would win the set 23-25. In the second, a 7-2 run early in the set would ultimately give LMU enough of a lead to secure the second set, 25-15. Lincoln Memorial would post their best attack percentage of the match in the third, 0.400, to give set 3 to LMU. In the fourth, 5 kills from
Axel van Baars would give the Railsplitters the fourth, giving LMU the win 3-1.
Axel van Baars and
Eliel Salva Torres would both tally double-digit kills on the match, with van Baars recording 11 and Salva Torres posting 10. Van Baars would also register 3 service aces and 7 kills.
John Luers recorded team-highs of 40 assists and 12 digs. .
As a team, the Railsplitters dominated Belmont Abbey in almost every category: kills (45-35), attack percentage (0.273-0.016), assists, (41-34), and digs (42-32).
With the win, LMU improves to 2-0 on the season.
The Railsplitters will be on the road again for their next game, traveling to Charleston, VW to face the University of Charlston on Friday, January 17
th at 7 pm.
