Charleston, WV – The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team sweep the Eagles of the University of Charleston 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 15-27) Friday evening.
The Railsplitters would take control of the first set and they maintained the lead the whole set. Through a 0.400 attack percentage, 4 blocks, and 12 kills, LMU would take the first set 25-19. The second set was a long battle between the Railsplitters and the Eagles as there was 13 ties throughout the set, but a
Matthew Gentry kill and an attack error by the eagles would give the second set to LMU. Lincoln Memorial dominated the third, tallying a 9-2 run early in the set, which ultimately gave them the push they needed to secure the third set and sweep the Eagles for their first match.
Matthew Gentry and
Eliel Salva Torres both recorded double-digit kills tonight with 10 kills each, and Gentry also posted 5 solo blocks and 2 block assists.
John Luers tallied 39 assists, and
Zadyn Labreche and
Griffin Wheatley lead the night in digs with 6 each.
As a team, they tallied 42 kills, a 0.427 attack percentage, 12 total blocks, and 24 digs. The University of Charleston posted 22 attack errors compared to LMU's 10.
With the win, the Railsplitters improve to 3-0 on the season.
They have a quick turnaround as they play in less than 24 hours, as they face the University of Charleston for the second time tomorrow, January 18
th at 1 pm.
