Charleston, WV – The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team defeat the University of Charleston 3-1 (25-20, 25-27, 25-22, 25-22) to sweep out the series versus the Eagles.
The first set was a close battle, but a 5-1 run from in the middle of the set and LMU's best attack percentage of the game (0.400) allowed LMU to gain enough of a lead to secure the first set 25-20. In the second, the Eagles gained an early lead, but Lincoln Memorial was able to catch up to tie up the game 5 times late in the set. Despite LMU's successful attempt to catch up, Charleston was able to take the second set. Thanks to the Railsplitter's 6-2 run early in the third and the 6 attack errors from the Eagles, Lincoln Memorial was able to win the third set. Lincoln Memorial took the fourth set to secure the win, thanks to the 6-1 run from Lincoln Memorial.
Axel van Baars and Griffin Wheatley had double-figures in kills, with 15 kills and a 0.313 attack percentage and 10 kills and 0.185 attack percentage, respectively. John Luers recorded a season-high 44 assists, while Matthew Gentry and Luers led in total blocks with 3.5. Zadyn Labreche registered double-figured in digs with 11.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial had a higher attack percentage with LMU's percentage being 0.288 and the Eagles' being 0.178. The Railsplitters recorded 5 service aces, 7 solo blocks, and held Charleston to 28 attack errors.
With the win, the Railsplitters improve to 4-0 on the season.
Their next match will be their home opener as they host Erskine on January 22nd at 5 pm in Mary Mars Gymnasium.
