Elyjah Freeman was named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, Tennessee Sports Writer's Association Player of the Week, and National Association of Basketball Coaches National Player of the Week for his combined effort of 71 points and 23 rebounds in two games last week. Earlier in the season, Lincoln Memorial defeated Tusculum at home, 78-62, and were looking to replicate that performance on Wednesday night.
The Railsplitters raced out to a quick 7-0 run before Tusculum cut the lead to one possession at 12-10 with 12:06 remaining in the first half. The teams continued to trade buckets throughout the remainder of the first half with the Lincoln Memorial lead growing to as much as eight points at 28-20. However, the Pioneers closed the first half on an 8-2 run to cut the Railsplitters lead to two points, 30-28 at the half. Lincoln Memorial dominated the paint 20-8 in the first half and assisted 10 times on 13 made baskets.
Tusculum's tenacity spilled into the second half, matching Lincoln Memorial bucket-for-bucket. With the score swelling to 38-37, the Pioneers took their first lead of the game on a three pointer, taking a 40-38 lead with 13:19 left in the game. However, the Railsplitters answered with two pairs of free throws to regain the lead, 42-40. Lincoln Memorial stitched together a 12-5 run over the next six minutes to take a 54-45 lead with 6:05 remaining in the game. The Lincoln Memorial defense continued to put the clamps on Tusculum, stitching together another 8-3 run to extend the lead to 62-48. A 6-2 run by the Pioneers saw the lead cut back to within 10, still favoring the Railsplitters, 64-54. However, Lincoln Memorial closed the game out scoring Tusculum 4-1 to take a 68-55 victory, sweeping the Pioneers in the regular season two games to none.
Lincoln Memorial's defense once again held its opponent to less than its season average in points-per-game. The Railsplitters held the Pioneers to just 30% shooting from the floor, including a 27% mark from long range. For the third straight game, Lincoln Memorial shot 50% or better from the floor.
Wes Enis led all scorers with 22 points, nearly tallying a double-double, adding nine rebounds.
Elyjah Freeman tallied his third straight double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Jordan Walters added 13 points and five assists.
EJ Smith recorded nine points, four rebounds, and a pair of assists.
Connor Jordan added four points, followed by
Osmar Garcia-Araujo and
Thomas Allard with two points apiece to round out scoring for Lincoln Memorial.
With the victory, the Railsplitters improved to 12-2 overall with a 10-2 mark in conference play.
