Harrogate, TN - The 11th-ranked Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team was back at home on Saturday night, playing host to the Catawba Indians. The two teams met in the SAC Tournament Championship last season, seeing Catawba take a one point victory to claim the tournament championship. The two met again earlier this season in Salisbury, NC with the Railsplitters taking a 10 point victory, exacting their revenge for the tournament championship. In Harrogate on Saturday, the Railsplitters smothered Catawba in dominating fashion, claiming a 30-point, 83-53 victory, improving to 13-2 on the season with an 11-1 mark in conference play.
Lincoln Memorial raced out to an 8-2 lead in the opening minutes of the game and never looked back. The Railsplitters held the Catawba Indians to just 16 points in the first half, on just 19.4% shooting from the floor. Lincoln Memorial held Catawba on a scoring drought that spanned from the first half into the second. The Railsplitters out scored the Catawba Indians 45-37 in the back end of the game to secure a substantial 30-point victory.
This is the 15th consecutive game of the season (all of them) that Lincoln Memorial has held its opponent to less than its season average in points-per-game. The Railsplitters dominated points in the paint 44-22 and fast breaks 26-5. Lincoln Memorial once again distributed the ball exceptionally well with 22 assists on 30 made baskets. The Railsplitters shot 50% or better from the floor for the fourth consecutive game.
Lincoln Memorial was led in scoring by
Wes Enis with 20 points. He also added five assists and three rebounds.
Osmar Garcia-Araujo anchored the team from the interior with 15 points and five rebounds.
Elyjah Freeman tallied his fourth consecutive double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
EJ Smith added 10 points and five rebounds.
Connor Jordan added eight points,
Ngundeng Ruey added seven points,
Jordan Walters added five points, four assists, and 10 rebounds.
Mahmoud Bangura "Mo" added four points, and
Thomas Allard added three points to round out scoring for the Railsplitters.
