Harrogate, TN - Four days after falling in hard-fought battle against Wingate on the road, the 10th-ranked Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team was back on its home court looking to bounce back against the Mars Hill Lions. The Railsplitters entered the game with a 14-3 record, including a 12-2 mark in conference play. Mars Hill entered the game with a 6-11 overall record, including a 4-11 mark in South Atlantic Conference play.
Mars Hill was the first on the board with a dunk, taking a 2-0 lead. It was short-lived and the only lead of the game for the Lions. Lincoln Memorial answered the opening dunk with a 5-0 run to take a 5-2 lead. The Lions cut the deficit back to one possession at 10-7 with 14:42 remaining before the Railsplitters began to open up. Lincoln Memorial's lead grew to 17-7 on the heels of a 7-0 run. Mars Hill began to chip away, cutting the score back to 21-16 before Lincoln Memorial regained a double digit lead at 26-16 with 8:02 remaining in the first half. The Railsplitters closed the first half out scoring the Lions 17-13 to take a 14 point advantage at the half, 43-29. Lincoln Memorial shot 50% from long range in the first half, connecting on 5-of-10 attempts from down town and an
eye-popping 62.5% from the floor, connecting on 15-of-24 attempts from the floor. The Railsplitters dominated the pain 20-8 and assisted on 9-of-15 made baskets in the first half, seeing eight Railsplitters work their way into the scoring column.
Lincoln Memorial opened up the offense in the second half. After taking a 14 point lead into the half, the Railsplitters began to dominate, increasing their lead to over 20 points just four minutes into the second half, 59-37. As hard as the Lions tried to fight back, Lincoln Memorial was not going to allow it, jumping out to a substantial 32 point lead, 73-41 with 11:21 still remaining in the game. With the contest firmly in control, the Railsplitters maintained a 35 point lead with just 5:30 left in the game. Lincoln Memorial went on to claim a 97-64 victory in dominating fashion. The Railsplitters dominated the glass 42-18, owning the paint 42-30. Lincoln Memorial connected on an
astonishing 61.5% of attempts from the floor for the game, including a 47.6% mark from long range. It is the sixth game in a row that the Railsplitters have shot 50% or better from the floor.
Lincoln Memorial was led in scoring by
Wes Enis with 23 points, two rebounds, and three assists. He was followed by
EJ Smith with 15 points and five assists.
Elyjah Freeman tallied 14 points and 12 rebounds, tallying his ninth double-double of the season.
Thomas Allard added 14 points connecting on four three pointers.
Jordan Walters added 12 points and 11 rebounds, tallying a double-double.
Mahmoud Bangura added 10 points and two rebounds in just 14 game minutes.
Babacar Thiam added four points in five minutes.
Connor Jordan added three points and
Osmar Garcia-Araujo added two points to round out scoring for the Railsplitters. All five of Lincoln Memorial's starters tallied double figures, with two players tallying double-doubles.
With the victory, the Railsplitters improved to 15-3 on the season with a 13-2 mark in conference play.
