Anderson, SC - Three days after defeating Mars Hill at home in emphatic fashion, the 10th-ranked Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team took to Anderson, SC for the second match up of the season with the Anderson Trojans. The Railsplitters defeated the Trojans 73-71 at home earlier this season. Lincoln Memorial entered the game with a 15-3 overall record, including a 13-2 mark in conference play. Anderson entered the contest with a record of 11-8 overall, including a 7-8 mark in conference play.
When Lincoln Memorial and Anderson met earlier this season, the game went to the wire. The first half of Saturday's game had the exact same feel as both teams battled throughout the half with six lead changes. The Railsplitters scored the first goal of the game to take their first lead, 2-0. The Trojans regained the lead on the ensuing possession with a three pointer and eventually jumped out to a 12-7 lead. Lincoln Memorial went on an 8-2 run to regain the lead, 15-14. The score grew to 29-28 before Anderson regained the advantage, 30-29.The Trojans maintained a 38-36 lead until the 3:33 mark of the first half when
EJ Smith knocked down a three pointer to give the Railsplitters the 39-38 lead, which they held for the remainder of the first half. Lincoln Memorial took a 47-43 lead into the half. The Railsplitters shot a blistering 63% from the floor in the first half, including a 53% clip from long range. Lincoln Memorial owned the fast break 13-5 and points in the paint 20-14 in the first half.
The Railsplitters came out fast to start the second half, jumping out to a quick 58-48 lead on the heels of an 11-5 run heading into the first media timeout of the half. Out of the media timeout, Lincoln Memorial continued to be extremely efficient, increasing its lead to 64-50 with 14 minutes left in the game. The Railsplitters' lead grew further to 71-55 with an emphatic two-hand flush from
Jordan Walters to extend the lead to 16 points with just over 11 minutes remaining in the second half. The Trojans began to chip away, drawing back to within 12 points, 71-59 as the clock crept below 10 minutes. Lincoln Memorial's lead grew back to 15 points as the Railsplitters remained white hot from long range, seeing the 9th three pointer scorch the nylon for Lincoln Memorial. Back-to-back buckets from Anderson saw the gap close to 10 points, 74-64 in favor of the Railsplitters, with 7:45 remaining.
A 5-0 run saw the lead grow back to 15 points for Lincoln Memorial, 79-64 as
Wes Enis buried his sixth three pointer of the game. Following a defensive stop, the Railsplitters once again connected from long range as
Thomas Allard knocked down his third three pointer of the game from NBA range. Enis remained white hot, knocking down his seventh three pointer of the game on the ensuing possession, seeing the Railsplitters' lead remain 14 points, 85-71 with less than four minutes remaining. Lincoln Memorial outscored Anderson 6-2 in the closing minutes of the game to post a 91-73 victory, improving to 16-3 on the season with a 14-2 mark in conference play.
Lincoln Memorial was led in scoring by
Elyjah Freeman with 27 points and 10 rebounds, tallying his 10th double-double of the season. He was followed by
Wes Enis with 25 points, going 7-of-9 from long range.
EJ Smith and
Thomas Allard added 13 points each.
Jordan Walters added eight points and five rebounds.
Babacar Thiam added three points and
Connor Jordan added two points to round out scoring for the Railsplitters.
Lincoln Memorial played
lights out on offense, connecting on 60% of attempts from the floor, including an unheard of 57.1% clip from long range, knocking down 12-of-21 three pointers. The Railsplitters dominated the fast break 22-12 and points in the paint 46-28.
