Harrogate, TN - Following a perfect 2-0 week last week in which it eclipsed 90 points in both games, the 8th-ranked Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team was seeking to extend its winning streak to three games, playing host to the UVA-Wise Cavaliers on Wednesday night. The Railsplitters entered the game atop the South Atlantic Conference Standings with an overall record of 16-3, including a 14-2 mark in conference play. The Cavaliers entered the contest with an overall record of 13-7, including a 10-6 mark in conference play, good for fourth in the conference.
UVA-Wise connected on the first bucket of the game, a three pointer, to take a quick 3-0 lead. Lincoln Memorial countered with an 8-0 run to take an 8-3 lead. The Cavaliers began to claw back, drawing the deficit back to within one point at 19-18. The Railsplitters once again strung together an 8-0 run to extend the lead to 27-18. UVA-Wise continued to fight back, cutting the deficit back to four points, 37-33 with 2:30 remaining in the first half. Lincoln Memorial maintained its four point advantage through the end of the half, taking a 39-35 lead into the locker room. The Railsplitters owned the paint, out scoring the Cavaliers 22-14 in the first half. Lincoln Memorial also took advantage of eight first half turnovers from UVA-Wise, adding 13 points off turnovers. Even with a seven-footer lurking around in the paint for the Cavaliers, the Railsplitters out rebounded UVA-Wise 18-17 in the first half.
The Cavaliers came out fast to start the second half, eventually taking a 42-41 lead; their first lead since leading 3-0 to start the game. However, in the blink of an eye, on the heels of a 23-6 run, the Railsplitters' lead ballooned to 16 points, 64-48. UVA-Wise refused to relent, cutting the deficit to 10 points, 73-69, but would come no closer as Lincoln Memorial polished the game off, taking a 79-69 victory to improve to 17-3 on the season with a 15-2 mark in conference play.
Thomas Allard led Lincoln Memorial in scoring, posting a career-high 21 points. He also added five rebounds. He was followed in scoring by
Elyjah Freeman, who tallied 13 points and eight rebounds.
Jordan Walters chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds.
Wes Enis added nine points and five rebounds.
Connor Jordan tallied eight points and five rebounds.
EJ Smith and
Osmar Garcia-Araujo added six points apiece.
Babacar Thiam added five points to round out scoring for the Railsplitters.
