Harrogate, TN - Lincoln Memorial women's soccer plays to a draw at home against the Newberry Wolves Wednesday afternoon 1-1.
The Wolves wasted no time creating opportunities as their first shot of the match came in the 3rd minute, which save
Emma Cooke her first save.
The Railsplitters were able to fire some attempts, but they were unable to place one on target. The next on frame shot came from Newberry in the 13th minute, and Cooke was there to make the save.
The next 12 minutes was back-and-forth play, before
Ellie Snyder registered LMU's first shot on target in the 25th minute, which was saved by Newberry's goalkeeper. They continued to test the goalkeeper in the 26th minute by a firing shot from
Astrid Palmblad, forcing the Wolves' goalkeeper to another save.
Newberry followed with a pair of attempts on frame: the first in the 33rd minute, and the second in the 36th minute, giving Cooke two more saves on the afternoon.
One last shot attempt came before halftime from Snyder in the 42nd minute, saved. The score remained scoreless at 0-0 going into the second half.
Like the first half, Newberry began the half with early offensive pressure as they took the lead in the 46th minute, as Altorfer scored off of a Brennan assist.
The Railsplitters responded by generating more chances in the 47th and 49th minutes, by
Viktoria Filsner and Palmblad, respectively. Newberry's goalkeeper denied both of those attempts.
LMU continued pushing into the attacking third with two more Railsplitter drives. The first was by Filsner in the 63rd minute and the second was by Snyder in the 66th minute, but were handled by the Wolves goalkeeper.
More shots were fired off by Lincoln Memorial's
Donna van der Zalm and
Edie Wilds in the 69th and 70th minutes, but were saved.
LMU found the equalizer in the 86th minute as Filsner's corner connected with
Riley Miller, whose header slipped through the goalkeeper's hands to make it 1–1.
Filsner made a last minute attempt to take the lead in the 89th minute, but Newberry denied the shot, making the end result a draw 1-1.
Miller recorded the lone goal of the match, while Filsner tallied the assist. Filsner also led in shots with six and in shots on goal with four. Cooke earned four saves on the afternoon.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial out shot the Wolves 23-11, with also having more shots on goal with their 12 to Newberry's 5. LMU also recorded four saves and six corner kicks.
With the draw, the Railsplitters move to 6-4-4 overall and 2-3-3 in conference play, while Newberry moves to 5-4-2 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play.
Lincoln Memorial's next match will be on Saturday, October 25th as they travel to Anderson, SC to face Anderson at 6 pm.
