Women's Soccer Drops Match To Anderson

Anderson, SC – The Lincoln Memorial women's soccer team falls to the Anderson Trojans Saturday evening 0-1.

The Trojans started to generate chances early as their first test on goalkeeper Emma Cooke was in the 6th minute, which she saved.

Possession shifted back and forth over the next 14 minutes, with both teams producing attempts that failed to find the frame.

Anderson took a chance on goal in the 20th minute, and Cooke was there to make the save. The Railsplitters followed with a shot four minutes later by Viktoria Filsner, but was denied by the Trojan goalkeeper.

Anderson kept on applying pressure to the Railsplitter back line as a Trojan shot on an open goal was saved by Railsplitter Jade Brown in the 40th minute and one was saved Cooke in the 42nd minute. The score going into halftime remained scoreless at 0-0. 

The opening eight minutes of the second half were quiet, as the first on goal opportunity of the half came from Anderson, which forced Cooke to record her fourth save of the evening.

LMU then fired off a pair of attempts that were on frame: the first in the 55th minute by Edie Wilds and the second Iin the 57th minute by Filsner, but were both handled by the Trojan goalkeeper.

Anderson got the first goal on the scoreboard in the 73rd minute by Kirchner, with assists coming from Keuffer and Douty to make the score 1-0 with the Trojans in the lead.

In the 78th minute, Ava Garrett took a shot in the 78th minute but saved. With that being the last shot opportunity for LMU, Anderson takes the win 1-0.

Vilsner led the team with three shots and shots on goal with two. Cooke recorded four saves in the match.

As a team, the Railsplitters recorded six shots, with four being on frame, three corners, and four saves.

With the loss, LMU drops to 6-5-4 overall and 2-4-3 in conference play, and Anderson moves to 8-4-1 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

Lincoln Memorial's next match will be the last home contest of the regular season, as they face non-conference opponent Clayton State on Wednesday, October 29th at 3 pm.
