Women's Soccer Finishes Home Schedule Undefeated With Win Over Clayton State

Harrogate, TN - Lincoln Memorial women's soccer wrapped up their regular season home schedule undefeated with a 2-1 win over the Clayton State Lakers Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the 2025 season marks the first time that the program has gone undefeated at home since 1998.

The Railsplitters pressed the Laker defense from the beginning, earning two corner kicks within the first four minutes and recording their first shot on goal in the 5th minute by Astrid Palmblad, but was handled by the Clayton State goalkeeper.

Along with that, LMU denied any shot on goal opportunities for the Lakers until the 19th minute, where they fired off back to back shots in the 19th minute, but was no problem for goalkeeper Emma Cooke as she recorded her first two saves of the match.

Lincoln Memorial took the lead in the 31st minute, as Viktoria Filsner's corner kick went right to the front of Riley Miller at the top of the 6-yard box, in which she tapped in the net to make the score 1-0 with the Lincoln Memorial advantage.

Clayton State quickly equalized the match five minutes later in the 36th minute as Vargas scored off of the assist by Martin.

In the 40th minute, Camden Prosser had a look at goal in the 40th minute, but the goalkeeper forced the save. With that being the last strike at the net for either team, the two teams went into halftime tied at 1-1.

Ellie Snyder opened the attack early into the second half with a shot on frame in the 47th minute.

Possession battled for the next 19 minutes, as the next threat at the net didn't come until the 66th minute with a pair of Clayton State strikes on goal in the 66th minute.

LMU continued to battle in the attacking third with a shot on target in the 71st minute from Edie Wilds, which was stopped by the goalkeeper.

One last minute attempt for the Railsplitters was all that they needed to take back the lead. Snyder crossed the ball from the left side of the 18-yard box to Prosser, who fired a shot to the top left corner of the net out of the goalkeeper's reach to make the lead 2-1.

That was the last shot attempt for either team, giving the Railspltters the undefeated season at home with a 2-1 win.

Miller and Prosser both recorded the goals for LMU, while Snyder and Filsner tallied the assists. Prosser and Snyder led the team in shots with three each, with Prosser also leading in shots on goal with two. Cooke add five more saves to her season tally.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded 14 shots, with six being on goal, five saves, and eight corner kicks.

With the win, the Railsplitters improve to 7-5-4 overall and Clayton State drops to 4-8-2 overall.

Their next match will be the last match of the regular season as they travel to Emory, VA on Wednesday, November 5th to face Emory & Henry at 5 pm.
