Last Second Goal Gives Women's Soccer The Win Over Emory & Henry

Emory, VA – Lincoln Memorial women's soccer secures a spot in the SAC Tournament as they defeat the Emory & Henry Wasps Wednesday evening 3-2.

The Wasps were the first team to take a change at goal in the 3rd minute, but that forced goalkeeper Emma Cooke to make her first save of the night.

Lincoln Memorial's Ellie Snyder followed with a shot on frame in the 7th minute but was handled by the E&H goalkeeper.

The Railsplitters continued to keep the momentum in their attacking third with shots from Edie Wilds in the 10th and 16th minutes and Donna van der Zalm in the 18th minute, all collected by the goalkeeper.

The offensive pressure continued by LMU as Gabby Barnes tested the goalkeeper a minute later in the 19th minute, but was denied.

The Railsplitter defense was also successful as the Wasps did not have a shot on goal for the remainder of the half, while Sophia Berglund had the last minute effort on target in the 44th minute, but was caught by the goalkeeper. The score going into the second half remained scoreless at 0-0.

Lincoln Memorial gained the lead with their first shot on goal in the second half, which was in the 59th minute. Barnes passed the ball through the Emery & Henry back line right in front of the feet of Viktoria Filsner at the 6-yard box, who netted the ball in the top right corner to give the Railsplitters the lead 0-1.

LMU continued with their momentum in the 68th minute, as Filsner received a cross in the 6-yard box, who then connected with Jade Brown who slotted the ball in the back of the net to extend their lead 0-2.

The Wasps responded quickly a minute later with a goal, as Stavis scored off of an assist by Booth to make the score 1-2.

E&H continued their momentum as they put an attempt on frame in the 72nd minute, but was no problem for Cooke as she recorded her second save of the evening. In the 81st minute, the Wasps even the match back up at 2-2 with a goal from Stavis and an assist from Booth.

The Railsplitters last attempt at goal was a success as it resulted in a goal with 15 seconds left in the match, as Lieve Schiphof passed the ball from the top of the 18-yard box to a running Camden Prosser who fired the ball in the back of the net to secure the 3-2 win and a spot in the SAC Tournament.

Filsner, Brown, and Prosser all scored goals for Lincoln Memorial, while Filsner and Barnes each tallied an assist. Filsner and Wilds were the team-leaders in shots with four, and Wilds led in shots on goal with two. Cooke recorded two saves in the match.
