Women's Basketball Finish Crossover Challenge Undefeated With Victory Over Converse

Harrogate, TN – Lincoln Memorial women's basketball begin their first win streak of the season as they finish the Conference Crossover Challenge undefeated with a 86-41 win over the Converse Valkyries Saturday afternoon.  

The first quarter was dominated by Lincoln Memorial, limiting the Valkyries to only eight points as they tallied 25 points by piecing together 6-0 and 9-0 runs.  Asia Barr led the first quarter with seven points and Alexa Smiddy recorded three steals. The score at the end of the first was 25-8 with Lincoln Memorial in the lead.   

The second quarter was much like the first, with LMU adding 26 points to more than double their score by halftime, with Converse only scoring eight and shooting a 23% field percentage. The Lady Railsplitters really extended their lead as they put together a 13-point run over the span of two and a half minutes. Kamil Collier led the team this quarter as she scored eight points, as the team went into halftime with the 51-18 lead.

The Lady Railsplitters continued to score more points each quarter as they added 27 points to their total, with Keiara Anderson leading the pack as she registered ten points. They pieced together several double-digit runs, as they tallied a 10-0 run over three minutes and an 11-0 run over a minute and a half. The score going into the final quarter would be 78-27 with Lincoln Memorial having the advantage.

The fourth was the Valkyries highest scoring quarter but LMU's lowest, as Converse added 14 points and the Lady Railsplitters scored eight, with four different players recording points for LMU. The final score would be 86-41 with Lincoln Memorial taking the win.

Barr led the team with 20 points, as she went 6/10 from the field and 50% from the three. Kallie Housley and Collier would each add 14 points each, with Collier securing six rebounds and Housley tallying three rebounds and three steals. Smiddy and Anderson would also be in the double-digit group as they both registered ten points, with Smiddy tying to lead in steals with five and Anderson leading in rebounds with seven. Federica Lagana would add seven points, six rebounds, and four steals, and Ajalon Gillard would record four. Maleiya Hill finished with three points along with team-high six assists. Aubree Laney and Rachel Early rounded out the scoring with both adding two points each, along with Laney recording five rebounds and Early adding four.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial went 31/72 (43.1%) from the field, 10/36 (27.8%) from beyond the arch, and 14/24 (58.3%) from the charity stripe. LMU registered 32 points from the paint, 44 points from Converse turnovers, 8 second chance points, 13 fast break points, and 28 points from the paint.

With the win, the Lady Railsplitters improve to 2-0 on the season and the Valkyries drop to 0-2.

Lincoln Memorial will have a well-deserved 6-day break as their next match will be another tournament, as they travel to Dahlonega, GA to compete in the North Georgia Tournament on November 21-22. They will play host University of North Georgia on Friday, November 21st at 6 pm and Clayton State on Saturday, November 22nd at 2 pm.
