Greenville, S.C. - After a strong showing in the Baldwin Wallace Open on Sunday, sophomore Shonticia Taft has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Wrestler of the Week. It is the first Wrestler of the Week honor for Lincoln Memorial in program history.
Taft earned the award by finishing in fifth place in Sunday's meet hosted by Baldwin Wallace University, going 3-2 in her five matches in the 145-pound weight class.
Taft started her run in the second-round of the consolation bracket, taking down her opponent from Washington & Jefferson by way of a fall in 1:15 of action, earning a score of 6-0. Taft would win her next bout over an opponent from Aurora, taking the win via fall this time in 1:03 of competition.
Taft would round out her performance with a win over an opponent from Heidelberg to secure the fifth-place finish.
This marks the first time Taft has been honored as wrestler of the week and is the first such award for Lincoln Memorial in program history.
