LYNCHBURG, Va. — Lincoln Memorial women's track and field standout junior Sterling Webb opened her indoor season with a strong, well-rounded showing in the pentathlon at the Liberty Kickoff, finishing sixth overall in a competitive Group A field with a total of 3,521 points.
Webb set the tone early with one of her best events of the day, running 9.08 in the 60-meter hurdles to score 893 points and place sixth. She followed with a solid performance in the high jump, clearing 5.11 feet to add 689 points and remain firmly in the hunt among the event's top athletes.
In the long jump, Webb delivered a mark of 18.2 feet, contributing 717 points—her second-highest scoring event of the competition. She continued to build her total through the shot put, where she recorded a throw of 32.7 feet, a new personal best, clearing her old mark of 32.5 feet.
Webb closed out the day with a strong effort in the 800 meters, clocking 2:29.81 for 695 points to secure her sixth-place finish.
Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, Rochelle Black highlighted Webb's well-rounded performance. "I thought overall Sterling performed well," he said. "Her first two events weren't what we typically see, but she responded well in the shot put and long jump. She added a personal best, so that's always a positive. We'll adjust and get ready for the remainder of the season."
