Men's Volleyball Defeats Saint Francis In Five

Cambridge, MA – The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team defeats Saint Francis Saturday evening 3-2 (26-24, 29-31, 25-21, 22-25, 8-15) for their seventh consecutive win of the season.

Lincoln Memorial had the lead in the first set until point 16, then a 4-0 run by Saint Francis gave them enough of a lead to give Saint Francis the win for set one 26-24.  Like set one, LMU was able to hold the lead until the 19th point, and a 6-1 run from Saint Francis made the match tied 20-20. The two teams tied 10 times from that point on until a 3-0 run at the end of the set gave LMU set two 29-31. Set three was a battle, as the Railsplitters fought to keep up with Saint Francis, as LMU seemed to be a couple of points behind throughout the whole set. Saint Francis took set three 25-21. Lincoln Memorial kept the lead for all of set four, and a 7-2 run solidified LMU's win for set four 22-25, to bring the match to a fifth set. Despite the battle between the two teams, the 6-1 run from LMU and the highest attack percentage of the match, 0.615, gave them the win for set five, which as a result LMU took the match win 3-2.

Two players had double-digit kills on the night: Matthew Gentry led the category with 1 kills and Axel van Baars tallied 13. Gentry had an impressive attack percentage, 0.750 with only one attack error. John Luers once again was the game-leader in assists with 42, and Griffin Wheatley recorded 3 service aces.  Gentry and Eliel Salva Torres led in blocks with 1 solo block and 3 block assists each. Wheatley and Tate Colebaugh both recorded double-digits in digs, with Wheatley getting 12 digs and Colebaugh posting 11.

As a team, the Railsplitters posted a 0.298 attack percentage, 54 kills, 50 assists, 6 service aces, and 49 digs, and held Saint Francis to 22 attack errors.

With the win, Lincoln Memorial improves to 7-0 on the season, extending their win streak to 7 games.

For their next match, they will travel to La Jolla, CA to face UC San Diego on Tuesday, February 4, with a start time of 7 pm.
