La Jolla, CA - The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team face their first loss of the season to #13 UC San Diego Tuesday evening 0-3 (20-25, 21-25, 24-26).
With UC San Diego's highest hitting percentage of the night, 0.500, and a 6-1 run, the Tritons took set one. UC San Diego took their momentum from the first set and brought it with them to the second, as they tallied a 8-2 run to give themselves enough of a lead to secure set two. Set three was a batte between the two teams, as there was 8 ties and three lead changes throughout the set, but a pair of kills from the Tritons gave them set three to give them the match win 0-3.
Axel van Baars led in kills on the evening with 13, while
Matthew Gentry,
Eliel Salva Torres, and
Griffin Wheatley each recorded 6.
John Luers was the game-leader in assists with 29. Defensively, Salva Torres led in blocks with 4 block assists, and Luers and Wheatley both lead in digs on the night with 8 each.
As a team, the Railsplitters had 34 kills for a 0.241 attack percentage, 31 assists, 1 service ace, 5 blocks, and 30 digs.
With the loss, Lincoln Memorial snaps their 7-game winning streak and moves to 7-1 on the season.
Their next match will be Wednesday, February 5th as they travel to Irvine, CA to face #2 Concordia University Irvine at 8 pm ET.
