Irvine, CA – The Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters defeat Concordia University Irvine Wednesday night for their 8
th win of the season (21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-16).
The beginning of the first set was a battle until LMU's 10
th point, but CUI's 5-1 run after gave them enough of a lead to secure the first set 21-25. There was 11 ties in the second set, but ultimately a 4-0 run by Lincoln Memorial at the end of the set gave them the win for set two 25-19. The Railsplitters had an impressive start to the third set, as they had a 6-0 run right from the start, which included 4 kills, an CUI attack error, and a service ace. The run gave them the strength they needed to keep the lead to secure the third set 25-20. The momentum from the third west went straight to the fourth, as LMU dominated the fourth quarter by nearly 10 points, 25-16, giving Lincoln Memorial the match win 3-1.
Johan Negron was the game-leader in kills with 12, while
Matthew Gentry had a .818 attack percentage on 9 kills and 0 errors.
John Luers led the night in assists with 38, and Gentry registered a team-high 3 service aces. Gentry and
Eliel Salva Torres both led in blocks on the night with 3 total blocks, with Gentry tallying 1 solo block and 2 block assists and Salva Torres recording 3 block assists. Luers recorded double-digit digs, which was a game-high 10 digs.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial tallied 44 kills for a .286 attack percentage, 41 assists, 9 service aces, 6.5 total blocks, and 39 digs.
With the win, the Railsplitters improve to 8-1 on the season.
