Women's Basketball Fall In Overtime Battle To Wasps

Emory, VA – The Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team fall in a close battle to the Emory & Henry Wasps in overtime 62-63.

The first quarter, Lincoln Memorial outscored the Wasps 15-10, with going 60% from the three and 50% from the field. The second was more difficult for LMU though, as they only posted 7 points compared to Emory & Henry's 14. The score going into halftime was 22-24, with the Wasps with the slight lead.

Lincoln Memorial got their momentum back in the third quarter, as LMU recorded 18 points and Emory & Henry recorded 15. In the third, LMU went 7/15 from the field and 66% from the free-throw line. The fourth quarter was a battle, as the points were close. The Lady Railsplitters scored 15 points, and the Wasps scored 16, making the score 55-55 at the end of regulation, forcing the game to go into overtime.

The overtime period was also a close battle, but ultimately last second points from the Wasps gave them the one point win 62-63.
Caroline Sikkink was the team-leader in points on the night with 16, along with posting 4 rebounds. Kamil Collier and Alexa Smiddy both recorded 10 points each, with Collier also posting 3 rebounds and Smiddy registering 5 rebounds and a team-high 6 assists. Matty Tanner tallied 6 points and a team-high 6 rebounds. Lexi Patty scored 5 points and posted 5 rebounds. Jamyah Winter and Dominique Rodriguez finished out the scoring with 4 and 2 points, respectively.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial went 42.6% from the field, 25.8% from the three, and 50% from the free-throw line. The team had 5 second chance points, 30 points in the paint, 9 fast-break points, and 10 points off of Wasp turnovers.

With the loss, the Lady Railsplitters move to 9-13 overall and 8-11 in the SAC.

Their next game will be at home in Tex Turner Arena, as they play host to Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, February 15th with tip-off at 2 pm.
