Women's Basketball Defeats Lenoir-Rhyne For Ninth Conference Win Of The Season

Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team defeat the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears Saturday afternoon 68-61 for their ninth conference win of the season.

The first quarter was a battle for both teams, as the Bears only posted 13 points and the Lady Railsplitters only scored 11. Despite the slow scoring first quarter, LMU picked up the momentum in the second, as they outscored Lenoir-Rhyne 16-12, with Matty Tanner going 2/3 from behind the arch.  In the first half, LMU went 40.9% from the field, 36.4% from the three, and 62.5% from the free-throw line.

In the third, the Bears managed to score more than Lincoln Memorial, with Lenoir-Rhyne scoring 19 points and LMU recording a close 17. The fourth quarter was where Lincoln Memorial really dominated, outscoring Lenoir-Rhyne 24-17, with 16 of those points coming from the free-throw line. With the high scoring fourth quarter from LMU, Lincoln Memorial gets the win 68-61.

Three players would record double-digits: Alexa Smiddy posted 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assistsl; Matty Tanner recorded 15 points, team-high 7 rebounds, and 2 assists; and Lexi Patty registered 10 points and 3 rebounds. Caroline Sikkink tallied 8 points and 5 rebounds, and Kamil Collier posted 7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block.  Jamyah Winter, Asia Barr, and Keiara Anderson finished out the scoring with 5 points, 3 points, and 1 point, respectively.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial went 18/43 from the field, 8/20 from the three, and 24/32 from the free-throw line. 24 made free-throws and 32 free-throw attempts are both season-highs for the team. LMU had 9 second chance points, 18 points in the paint, 7 fast break points, and 12 points off of Lenoir-Rhyne turnovers.

With the win, LMU improves to 10-13 overall and 9-11 in the SAC.
