6th-ranked men's basketball sweeps Coker in regular season

Hartsville, SC - Just two days after suffering its first loss in nearly a month, and fourth loss of the season, the 6th-ranked Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team made the quick turnaround to Hartsville, SC for a rematch against the Coker Cobras. Earlier in the season, the Railsplitters took down the Cobras 109-82 at home in a prolific offensive performance. Following the loss to UVA-Wise on Thursday, with only a handful of games remaining in the regular season, Lincoln Memorial was seeking to avoid a multi-game skid and retain its position atop the conference standings in its final regular season road game on Saturday. The Railsplitters entered the game as the conference leader with an overall record of 20-4, including an 18-3 record in conference play. Coker entered the game with an 18-7 overall record, including a 14-7 conference record, resting at fourth place in the conference.

The home standing Cobras were the first on the board, taking a 2-0 lead on a pair of game opening free throws before Thomas Allard connected on his first shot from long range to give the Railsplitters their first lead of the game, 3-2. Behind an 8-0 run, the Railsplitters took an early 8-2 advantage. Coker battled back to tie the game with a pair of back-to-back three pointers before adding a jump shot to take a 10-8 lead on the heels of an 8-0 run. However, a three pointer from Wes Enis re-established Lincoln Memorial as the controlling team, taking an 11-10 lead at the 15:38 mark.

The teams went back-and-forth for the next five minutes, seeing the scoring margin extended to two possessions on a pair of Allard free throws with 10:55 left, leaving the Railsplitters in control 23-19. Coker cut the margin to one point with a three pointer, 23-22, before Lincoln Memorial began to drive up the score with a 14-0 run to take a 37-22 lead with 7:14 remaining in the first half. The Cobras slashed the Railsplitters' lead to eight points at 42-34 with just under four minutes remaining in the half before Lincoln Memorial once again pulled away. The Railsplitters outscored the Cobras 7-4 in the closing three minutes of the first half to take a 49-38 lead into the halftime intermission.

Coker, who bolsters the nation's second-highest scoring offense began to fight back to start the second half. Lincoln Memorial maintained a 15-point advantage, 59-44, at the 17:00 mark before the Cobras began to get hot. Coker went on a 16-4 run to tie the game at 63-63 with 10:09 left in the game. The teams battled back-and-forth over the next five minutes, seeing the Cobras take a 71-70 lead with 5:29 left in the game. A made layup and subsequent free throw from Enis put the Railsplitters back out front, 75-71. Lincoln Memorial added a 6-3 run to take an 81-74 lead before Coker cut back to within four points with a three pointer, 81-77, with less than two minutes remaining in the game. The Railsplitters lead grew to 85-79 with 42.9 seconds left in the game.
