Savannah, GA – The Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team falls to the Saint Leo Lions Saturday afternoon 10-14.
The Lions had the first two goals of the match as Nelan (Guenther) scores with 14:19 remaining in the first quarter and Smith adds a goal with 13:13 remaining. In response, Lincoln Memorial then adds 5 goals to tie up the match and then gain the lead. The first LMU goal came from
Brock Saunders with 12:23 remaining, with the assist coming from
Gavin Reid. With 7:41 remaining,
Rhodes Conroy first his first goal of the match, unassisted.
Jenson Jones then tallies a goal of his own with 6:02 remaining.
Alex Winters would score the last two goals of the quarter, with his first one with 4:00 remaining, assisted by Saunders, and the second one as a man-up goal with 0:56 remaining with Reid earning the assist. The score going into the second quarter would be 5-2 with the Railsplitters in the lead.
The second quarter would be quite the opposite of the first, with Saint Leo scoring the majority of the goals. The Lions score the firs two goals with Chernoff (Kroog) scoring with 11:02 left in the second and Raucci (Nelan) adding a goal with 8:59 remaining. Lincoln Memorial would score their only goal of the quarter with 7:57 remaining, with Conroy tallying his second goal of the match with
John Lombel recording the assist. The rest of the second quarter would be all Saint Leo goals: Kroog with 6:33 remaining, Raucci wih 5:17 remaining, Baker (Knoetgen) with 4:36 remaining, and Raucci (Nelan) with 1:57 remaining. The score going into halftime would be 6-8 with Saint Leo i-n the lead.
In te third quarter, Lincoln Memorial would tally the first two goals with Winters getting his third goal of the match assisted by Reid with 12:51 remaining, and Reid scoring a man-up goal wth 6:44 remaining to tie up the match 8-8. The Lions would respond with three goals: Kroos (Chernoff) with 5:56 remaining, Nelan (Baker) with 5:32 remaining, and Knoetgen (Raucci) with 3:03 remaining. Winters would then score his fourth goal of the match for Lincoln Memorial with 1:38 remaining in the third quarter, with Conroy earning the assist. The Lions would have the final say in the third with Knoetgen (Nelan) scoring with 0:49 remaining. The score going into the final quarter would be 9-12.
At 10:38 left in the fourth, Saint Leo's Knoetgen (Nelan) would add a goal. The Railsplitters would add their final goal of the match, with
Koen Burdette scoring his first goal of the match unassisted with 5:06 remaining. The Lions would have the last goal with Baker (Stellwagen) scoring with 2:17 remaining, which gives Saint Leo the win 10-14.
Winters and Reid led the game in points with 4, wit Winters tallying 4 goals and Reid recording 1 goal and 3 assists. Conroy would post 3 points with 2 goals and 1 assist, and Saunders would register 2 points with 1 goal and 1 assist. Burdette and Jones would get 1 point each from 1 goal.
Haden Berry,
Jordan Castro, and Lombel would lead the ground ball category with 4 each, and
Ashton Wilson would b the team-leader in caused turnovers with 2. Berry won 11/19 face-offs.
Connor Fitzgibbon would earn himself 9 saves.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded 41 shots, with 23 of them being on goal, 16/18 successful clears, 25 ground balls, 11 won face-offs, and 2/3 extra man opportunities.
With the loss, the Railsplitters move to 2-2 overall.
Their next match will be at home, as they play their first conference match of the season against Mars Hill on March 1
st at 4 pm in LMU Lacrosse Complex.
