RV LMU Softball Splits with Ohio Dominican on Sunday

Harrogate, TN- Lincoln Memorial split games with Ohio Dominican today in their Sunday softball doubleheader. LMU took the first contest by a score of 2-0 while falling in the second 5-13.

Game one would be low-scoring, with neither team gaining any offensive rhythm. After a scoreless first, Lincoln Memorial would see a base runner in Skylar Jacob after getting hit in the bottom of the second. Brianna Baer would get the team's first hit of the day in the first hit, advancing Jacob to second. Both runners would advance on a wild pitch, followed by Ryan Williams taking first on a fielder's choice, giving LMU a bases-loaded situation. Gracie Palmer would make contact but ODU would get the force out at home. Reese Vivrette would step up in the next at-bat, drawing a walk to score Baer and give LMU the 1-0 lead.

Both teams would struggle to find base runners as that would stay the score through four. Reese Vivrette would earn a single to start the bottom of the fifth, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt from Anna Kate Reichter. Kristin Griffin's RBI double would give LMU another run, giving LMU the 2-0 edge. Despite getting some runners on, the LMU defense would remain solid, giving the Railsplitters the victory. The win improves Halle Grace Patton to 8-1, throwing her seventh complete game and second shutout of the season.

Ohio Dominican would find their bats in the second contest. Two hits and an error in the top of the first would give the Panthers a three-spot in the top of the first. LMU would attempt to counter in the bottom half of the frame as two hit-by pitches, a fielder's choice, and a Hannah McMeen single would load the bases. Griffin would cross the plate on contact from Nicole Couvertiere but the Railsplitters would leave the bases loaded as the score would stay 1-3. Two more hits and another error would make the tally 1-5 in the second, something LMU would counter with a run of their own in the bottom half via a Reichter RBI single to score Alyssa Williams. A run in both the third and the fourth, followed by two in the fifth, would tack on to the Panther lead, creating seven runs of separation. Back-to-back RBI doubles from Griffin and Hanna Bogoski would give LMU a little life in the bottom of the fifth. Bogoski would cross the plate a few plays later after stealing third and scoring on a throwing error from the catcher to make the score 5-9. ODU's offense would be too much, however, scoring two more in both the sixth and the seventh to make the hole too large to climb out of and ending in a final 5-13.

Lincoln Memorial moves to 9-4 on the season and will have a quick turnaround with a doubleheader versus Ursuline College scheduled for a 12 PM/2 PM start tomorrow, February 24th, at Dorothy Neely Field in Harrogate.
