Women's Basketball Takes Down Carson-Newman For Season Sweep

Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team takes down the Carson-Newman Eagles to sweep the season series and to earn their 11th conference win of the season.

Lincoln Memorial started off dominating the first quarter offensively, as LMU posted 24 points and limiting the Eagles to scoring only 13, with the Lady Railsplitters going 6/10 from behind the arch and Alexa Smiddy shooting 3/3 from the three and Jamyah Winter also going 100% with 2/2 from the three. Carson-Newman slowly caught up in the second, outscoring Lincoln Memorial 15-11, making the score 35-28 going into halftime with LMU in the lead. In the first half, the Lady Railsplitters nearly went 50% in every shooting category, shooting 44.4% from the field, 8/15 from the three, and 3/6 from the charity stripe.

The third quarter was much like the first, as Lincoln Memorial came out on top scoring 17 points and the Eagles posting 15. Carson-Newman finally picked up their momentum in the fourth, as they scored 15 points compared to LMU's 17. Despite the late offensive spurt from the Eagles, Lincoln Memorial put themselves ahead enough to secure the win 69-63.

Smiddy nearly tallied her career-high, as she scored a season-high 32 points, going 7/8 from the three, along with 7 rebounds. Kamil Collier also scored double digits, scoring 13 points and grabbing 3 rebounds. Winter registered 9 points as she shot 3/6 from behind the arch, and Asia Barr posted 8 points. Lexi Patty tallied 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Matty Tanner finished out the scoring with 2 points, but grabbed 7 rebounds and had 9 assists.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial went above 50% in all categories: going 25/50 from the field, 13/25 from the three, and 6/10 from the free-throw line. LMU posted 18 points in the paint, 17 points off of Eagle turnovers, 5 second chance points, and 5 fast break points.

With the win, the Lady Railsplitters improve to 12-14 overall and 11-12 in the South Atlantic Conference. Tonight's win was the Lincoln Memorial's 5th win at home.

Their next game will be the last regular season game for LMU, as they play host to Limestone Saturday, March 1st at 2 pm in Tex Turner Arena.
